[edit] Overview
It was intended to be a weapon used by Combine Guards and then to be acquired by the player, although the player model and the Combine Guard model differ in shape and colors. One is brown, while the other is green and seems to be less finished and upside down.[2]
It was to fire a powerful disintegration beam, recycled for the Strider as a bigger and more powerful weapon. It can kill anything in one shot but can also hurt the player if they stand too close to the target, like the RPG.[2]
[edit] Trivia
- In the Half-Life 2 files can be found a sound file, "charging.wav", in the sound folder "weapons/cguard". It is an early version of the Pulse Rifle's secondary fire sound, originally that of the Combine Guard's weapon. It was also re-used for Portal, when the Portal Gun shoots portals on walls when still on its pedestal.
- In the Half-Life 2 files, several texture files for HUD weapon icons can be found, most of which still containing the icons for almost all of the cut weapons. The Combine Guard Gun is among them.
- A similar weapon, the Black Hole Gun, was originally designed for Quiver.
