Exit 17 is the fifth and final chapter of Half-Life 2: Episode One. In this chapter, Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance meet up with Barney Calhoun and begin evacuating Resistance soldiers and citizens from the city on trains. Gordon escorts several groups of refugees while resisting Combine assaults, and once the others are embarked, he and Alyx decide to act as a diversion, keeping the enemy forces focused on them and allowing the others to escape. Gordon defeats the remaining enemy soldiers and a Strider that attacks them, and leave City 17 on a second train just as the Citadel's core melts down. As they escape they witness the Advisor Pods leaving the Citadel seconds before the shockwave of the blast reaches their train and derails it.

[edit] Walkthrough

You have arrived at the train station! Dr. Kleiner is seen talking on the screen, but a Combine camera spots you and an Advisor appears on the screen, a sure signal that the Combine are closing in.

Join up with Barney, he'll inform you that he's got a group of citizens together, and only one last push is necessary to reach the train station. They'll move in groups, escorted by yours truly to ensure they reach the station safely. As you take the first group through you won't be attacked at all, so take the opportunity to get the lay of the land, you'll be coming through here more than once. If you find supplies on the way, only take what you absolutely need, otherwise they're best left to be used during your return trips. Alyx will stay behind to man the turret while you go back for more refugees. Some of the refugees are armed, but they're no good at taking care of themselves and not particularly bright, so you'll have to go out of your way to shephard them to the exit while keeping enemies away from them. There's not really much advice to give in this regard, just be careful, maintain situational awareness, and react quickly to neutralize every threat that arises. Don't be afraid to use your more powerful weapons (like the newly acquired .357 Magnum), if you need them any time, the time is now.

From your first trip (during which you're left alone) onwards, more numerous and/or powerful enemies will appear, here's a breakdown of their composition:

Once all the refugees are safely aboard the train, Alyx suggests that she and yourself will draw the Combine's attention while Barney and the others escape, then catch another train. Lead the way down the platform and find the crank to open the door, hold the use key on it to open the door, allowing Alyx to crawl through.

Uh-oh, Strider incoming! Forget the crank and duck for cover, it will destroy the crank with it's anti-matter cannon, then knock the doors off of a nearby shipping container, escape through the doors. Kill all the Overwatch Soldiers in your path. If you find a boxcar with Headcrab rockets, watch out for Poison Headcrabs. Reprogram Hopper Mines in your path as well. Once you find a rocket infinite ammo crate, take down the Strider. Once the Strider is dead go down the ladder and let Alyx activate the train. Your now leaving City 17. Watch as a stupid Gunship crashes down to you, but misses. When you went almost a mile away from the station, you see that the Citadel is senting the transmission, which means it is going to blow up. As you watch the Citadel blow watch Combine Pods fly out of the Citadel. Will this be the end? Find out in Half-Life 2: Episode Two chapters.
