The 9mm Pistol is a handgun seen in Half-Life and its expansions. It is used by various characters and is the first ranged weapon the player encounters. It can be found early in "Unforeseen Consequences" if the player kills a security guard wielding it, otherwise it can be found later in the same level, outside the entrance to the Anomalous Materials lab, on a dead security guard.
The standard armament of Black Mesa’s security officers, this pistol has two fire modes, and it is one of the few weapons that can fire underwater. It uses the same type of ammunition as the MP5. The primary fire mode is accurate but it is semi-automatic and limited to the speed that the player can pull the trigger. The secondary mode fires in much faster succession, emptying the 17 round magazine in seconds; however, this rapid-fire mode is inaccurate and is, therefore, useful only at close range.
In the standard game this weapon closely resembles a GLOCK 17 handgun, while the replacement model included as part of the High Definition Pack resembles a Beretta M9.
