Laszlo[1] was a Resistance member living on the coast who was, apparently, considered by friends to be "the finest mind of his generation".
During the "Sandtraps" chapter of Half-Life 2, Laszlo was attacked and severely wounded by Antlions while traveling from Lighthouse Point to the Vortigaunt Camp with his friend Sandy. Gordon Freeman arrived on the scene shortly thereafter, only to see Antlions attack him a second time, killing him.

- His character model was originally meant to be for a character named Samuel, who would ride with Gordon on the train to City 17.
- His name is likely to be a reference to Jon Gries' character in the 1985 film Real Genius.
- It is actually possible to "save" Sandy by killing the Antlions before they get to Lazlo (the easiest way is by doing it with the RPG, but he will die anyway because he is forced to by the scripted sequence.
- It is never fully explained why Sandy left him to bleed to death when a medic was a short walk away, though it may be because he simply didn't want to leave him vulnerable to the Antlions.
