New Little Odessa
From Combine OverWiki, the English Half-Life Wikia
New Little Odessa is a small Resistance town led by Odessa Cubbage. It is seen only in the Highway 17 chapter. It is populated by both Resistance soldiers and Vortigaunts. For short reference, New Little Odessa is also known as N.L.O.
[edit] Location
New Little Odessa appears to have been a smaller oceanside community before the Combine invasion. Like many other resistance bases along the coast, New Little Odessa has several docks that are not near water, which serves as more evidence that the Combine are indeed draining Earth of its resources.
[edit] Buildings
New Little Odessa contains two buildings. The first has 3 floors, and is the most important, containing a headquarters and radio in the basement. the second floor is used for recreation and is a sleeping quarters. The third floor has a balcony. The second building is another barracks for the resistance soldiers.
New Little Odessa also has a lookout tower. However, this tower provides very little protection because its main function is to warn of surprise attacks. This becomes evident when a Combine Gunship shoots down a resistance soldier who was standing watch on the tower.
[edit] History
New Little Odessa seems to have been a small coastal village before the Combine invasion. It now functions as a small resistance base, and is supposedly named after the base's leader, Odessa Cubbage. Some think that it was named after the Ukrainian city of Odessa, since Half-Life 2 takes place in Eastern Europe.
The G-Man has visited New Little Odessa to deliver a Rocket Propelled Grenade Launcher to Colonel Odessa so that he may teach his soldiers (and Gordon Freeman) in its use, and deflect a Gunship attack on the base.
The Combine forces in the Coast sector had been observing the base for some time, and possibly been preparing a ground attack on it after sending in the Gunship. However, as Gordon Freeman made his way to N.L.O., he destroyed the outpost which was surveying New Little Odessa.
