Shotgun Soldiers are Overwatch Soldiers specializing in close-quarters combat. As the name implies, they are equipped with Shotguns and are found in most soldier squads. Their weapon, capabilities, and tactics make him one of the strongest soldiers in the game.

[edit] Appearance & Capabilities
Shotgun soldiers can be distinguished by their brown/red uniforms and battle armour. Their helmets are slightly darker than the average Overwatch Soldier, and have blood red/orange goggles. They also bear the Overwatch Elite insignia on a red shoulder pad.
Specializing in close-quarters combat, the standard shotgun soldier uses the Shotgun with skill and efficiency. Shotgun soldiers, like standard Overwatch Soldiers, make use of grenades, and will use melee attacks against point-blank targets.
Shotgun soldiers generally use the same tactics as normal Overwatch Soldiers, except for a few differences:
- Shotgun soldiers almost immediately after spotting a target, will try to get close to it as soon as possible, to increase the effectiveness of its shotgun.
- Shotgun soldiers rarely use grenades, but will use them if necessary to drive targets out of cover
- Shotgun soldiers are normally covered by the standard Overwatch Soldiers while moving up close to their target
Typically, there are about one or two shotgun soldiers per squad, however, there may sometimes be more or less, depending on the situation.

When facing a squad with shotgun soldiers, try to keep a good distance away from them, as their shotguns are more effective at close range. At long range, shotgun soldiers pose a small threat.
Shotgun soldiers will try to close the distance between their target and them, and will try to rush up close to you.
When facing a squad of Overwatch Soldiers with shotgun soldiers in a small, confined space, use your own shotgun or any close range weapon you can use to take out the shotgun soldiers first. That way, your biggest threat is eliminated and you can concentrate on the less damaging standard soldiers.
The .357 Magnum and crossbow can make short work of Shotgun Soldiers, however, ammunition for these weapons is rare, so it's normally better to use other weapons, such as the SMG1 or AR2.

- Shotgun soldiers bear the Overwatch Elite insignia on one of their shoulder pads. This implies that shotgun soldiers are a branch of the Overwatch Elite. However, they are encountered much more frequently than elites. They may also be high ranking officers.
