Portmanteau it isn't[]
It could be named after the real-world insects called antlions, which also live in sand and fly. Their larvae are also predacious and live in cone shaped structures in sand called sandtraps.

Antlions the size of a dog? I think not.

In the Countermeasures section, it states that antlions cannot be killed by the grav gun. This isn't true, you can kill them, but it takes 10-12 punts to do so. --Telis Ravenlight 07:42, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

More sections?[]
I think there's enough info on the Antlions as a species instead of just various enemy types to add in some more sections to this page. There's information on the hive structure they have. Their use of existing tunnels and mines to build their hives. The honeycomb larval chambers, the webbing used to seal passages, store food in the "grim pinatas" and make the grub nests and the termite-mount like structures.
Also I think a section on Antlion husbandry and the relationship between the Antlions and Vortigaunts is worth including. We already know that it was a custom they used to practice and three of the very useful products of it; the larval extract, pheropods and healing pellets. The webbing and acid could also theoretically be of use though I supposed we should avoid speculating in the wiki articles.
Anyone have any other ideas on how to expand the Antlion pages?
