Regarding the Hunter-Chopper's mines, my personal theory is that they're collapsible: They're stored folded up inside the vehicle and inflate as they're dropped. I think this is likely considering that:

• They float.
• They have a relatively small payload, consistent with being hollow with only a small explosive charge around the rim.

[edit] The "Fold-up"

By close looking at a Mine you can see that they consist of several stripes of metal, maybe there are many joints or maybe its built like a radio antenna, allowing it to flatten it self to a plate like size.
